300 SEWING MACHINES FOR QUALITY PRACTICAL TRAINING TO WOMEN IN CONGO!

During the coming months we will be campaigning for women in Congo. Along Lake Kivu, a multifunctional centre has been established where girls and women are able to receive good vocational training. In a safe and clean environment. Gered Gereedschap wants to supply 300 sewing machines to strengthen practical training. Will you help us?

Democratic Republic of Congo, a large country in the middle of Africa. Its turbulent history has left deep scars on the country. Armed conflict and political instability cause a fragile situation for educational institutions. There is a chronic shortage of materials and basic resources for vocational training.

Many people work with full determination to change the appalling state of the education sector. Likewise Mary Cakupewa Fundiko, originally from Congo, and her Dutch DRCC foundation (Democratic Republic of Congo à la Carte) . Together with local partners she is involved in promoting vocational training and greater economic self-reliance for women and young people in the province South-Kivu. “Education is the most powerful weapon that can be used to change living conditions for women living in the rural areas of South-Kivu”.

Strengthening vocational education and promoting entrepreneurship

One of the projects of DRCC is a Multifunctional Centre for vocational training and psychosocial assistance at Lake Kivu. Women learn here how to read and write, receive agricultural training, sewing and are taught how to make soap. This is a six months course, concluding in a State examination. Every year, 120 young women are supported to take a considerable step forward and almost all succeed to continue an economic independent life.

A promising future as a tailor thanks to your support?

These are encouraging results. DRCC is now ready to take the next step and increase the training courses. The foundation approached Gered Gereedschap to support their vocational centre in South-Kivu with a large number of sewing machines. Gered Gereedschap would like to send a container loaded with 120 hand operated sewing machines, 140 electric sewing machines and 40 treadle sewing machines to South-Kivu. € 5,658 is needed to achieve this.
