HELP VULNERABLE YOUNG PEOPLE IN CAMEROON TO BECOME SELF-RELIANT

In Bamenda, a city in northwestern Cameroon, many young people are in a vulnerable position. Because of extreme poverty and a seemingly hopeless situation of their parents, they do not see the value of education and health care for their children. The Pan African Organisation for Research and Protection of Violence on Women and Children (PAORP-VWC) called for action and identified the need for vocational training as crucial for young people to achieve self-reliance and to be able to support themselves and their families. To support the students with the necessary materials, PAORP-VWC requires assistance of Gered Gereedschap.

Multifunctional training centre

PAORP-VWC wants to draw the youth out of this vicious circle by setting up a multifunctional training centre. The centre is able to offer 300-500 vulnerable young people in Bamenda a vocational training and prepare them for a self-reliant future for themselves and their families. The training courses focus on young people between 12 and 25 years and in the following trades; carpentry and cabinet making, tailoring and fashion design, shoemaking, car engineering, moped and motorcycle repair and hairdressing. In addition, there will be lessons in entrepreneurship such as bookkeeping, marketing and communication strategy. On completion of the programme, these young people will be equipped with tools of Gered Gereedschap to start their own business and work towards self-reliance.
